IC 1396 is an open star cluster located in the southern part of the Cepheus constellation. This image shows the eastern part of the nebula, where the Elephant's Trunk Nebula (IC 1396A) is located. IC 1396A (the Elephant Trunk Nebula) is a large Bok globule and an active starforming region. Embedded within it are some young stars visible in infrared images.
